Melbourne trip Telenova have just released their debut single Bones, and it’ll set your teeth on edge. It’s a song of two halves - the floaty, melodic vocals, and the production that practically has sweat dripping off of it. This is a song that’s made for confined spaces, and late-night debauchery. If you’re someone that often stays up past the witching hour, then this is for you. Lose yourself in the music and float amongst the clouds. Telenova will be there for when you land.

The band, which is made up of vocalist Angeline Armstrong, Slum Socialbl’s Edward Quinn and Miami Horror’s Joshua Moriarty, were brought together by Death Cab For Cutie’s guitarist Chris Walla. It’s an interesting origin story, but one that has led them to sign to tastemaker label Pointer Recordings. There’s a distinct ‘90s UK influence to the track, and if you’re a fan of bands like Portishead or Massive Attack, then this will absolutely be up your alley. This song would go down perfectly at an alternative nightclub around 3am when the mood in the room is absolutely euphoric.

Speaking about the track, Angeline says the song came together after the rattling intro piqued the band’s interest. “We started with that percussive intro, like rattling bones, and it reminded me of this feeling I’ve had of being so trapped inside my own head, my own skin and bones. We started to envision this elaborate narrative of melancholia and longing, a girl trapped in her own bones…her own disillusionment.”

Check out Bones below. The song will get your nerves jangling, but it’ll also work its way into your brain cells. I can’t get enough of Angeline’s vocals, and I can foresee a cult status in the making for Telenova, especially if they’re able to translate their chemistry on record to the live stage. If trip-hop’s your bag, then this might be your next favourite song. Get amongst it.
