Plastic Face Are Encouraging Self-Reflection With ‘BACK2TOKYO’
Sydney duo Plastic Face have just released their new single, BACK2TOKYO, and it’s a hook-filled delight. The track’s pulsating production will get you moving, and there’s an air of mystery around it that never truly resolves itself. It’s an electronic track that combines your favourite elements of pop and dance music, and I’m especially digging the vocals on the track. This is the kind of music that DJs play to a packed house at Berghain.
You'll feel like you’re always a step behind working out where the song is going to go next - and then it finishes. That’s part of the charm of the track, as well as Plastic Face in general. They’ve been making music as part of various projects for a while now, and BACK2TOKYO combines all the lessons they’ve learnt over the years to produce a track that is truly addictive. You’ll find yourself spinning this one multiple times in recent succession. Just make sure you use it as motivation to move on from the negative parts of your life, rather than to head back to those aspects of your existence.
Speaking about the track, the pair says the track’s meaning is up to you. “Our second single BACK2TOKYO, like all of our tracks, is 100% totally open to the listener’s interpretation. For us, this song was inspired by making the same mistakes over and over. We’ve used Tokyo as a metaphorical state of mind in which it can be interpreted as going back to old relationships you know are toxic, putting up with some horrendous job, or trying to manage addictions.” It’s something that we can all relate to. Mistakes are part of growing, after all.

Check out BACK2TOKYO below. The track is accompanied by a video made by Sean Clancy Donovan, and much like the track, it’s up to the viewer to decide what’s really going on. If you’re a fan of David Lynch, you’ll get a kick out of this video. Turn the bass up on your speakers, press play and let your inhibitions go. It’s what Plastic Face want.
