Kavelli Links Up With Freak For The DM Slide Anthem ‘Trap Phone’
Nigerian-born, Brisbane-based rapper Kavelli has just dropped his first single for 2021, and it’s one that’s set to blow the party up. Kavelli’s called on fellow Queensland rapper Freak to join him on Trap Phone, a track that’s perfect for a sesh. I’m a big fan of how natural Kavelli’s flow sounds on this track, and both he and Freak sound smooth as silk when they’re rapping over the beat, produced by Semi.
The beat is understated, allowing Kavelli and Freak to be the stars of the show. With some rap songs, the beat can feel a bit crowded, but that’s not the case here. The strings that start off the song, and feature predominately in the beat, are a great contrast with Kavelli’s deep vocals. It also means that the whole song bounces along, rather than stagnating at any point. Kavelli’s a Cancer and proud of it. I’m also a Cancer, so maybe that’s one of the reasons I’m feeling this song. Who knows?
Speaking about the track, Kavelli says it’s got a more “slowed down party vibe” than his previous releases. He’s flipped the phrase Trap Phone to mean a phone that’s got a lot of messages and Instagram DM slides, and he’s pretty happy living it up.

Check out Trap Phone below. If you’re looking for a track to get you hyped up before a night out, or you’re looking to slide into someone’s DMs (respectfully, of course), then this is a fun track to boost your mood. I’m really interested to see what Kavelli drops next, because I’m a fan of his rhyme schemes and flow, and I think that’ll translate well to whatever type of beat he’s spitting over. Kavelli’s got the sauce, and you’ll find yourself bopping along to this one.
