Kymie Calls In Kwame For The Steamy Love Song ‘Name’
South African-born, Western Sydney-based singer Kymie has linked up with Kwame for her latest single Name, and it’s as smooth as anything you’ll hear this year. Kwame produced the track, as well as featuring on it, and his R&B production showcases Kymie’s silky vocals. The pair play out each side of a turbulent relationship. It’s a rollercoaster, and the intense emotions that are part and parcel of a relationship are captured on the track. You’ll ride every bump with the pair, and you’ll feel their pain in your bones.
It’s not the first time the pair have worked together, with Kwame also producing Kymie’s previous single, Drop It Down. There’s no denying the chemistry the pair have, both in terms of vocal performances and the way Kwame’s production suits Kymie. It’s exciting hearing two artists that both know their strengths inside and out, and they’re able to elevate each other’s sound to a whole new level. This is a seriously sultry R&B track, and it’s best listened to with that someone special.
Speaking about the track, Kymie explains that she wanted to capture the intensity of a relationship that has peaks and troughs. “Name is about the journey of two lovers who are conflicted by love and lust. When writing Name I wanted to capture the roller coaster of emotions that go along with these types of relationships and their very turbulent nature.”
Much like any relationship, there’s ups and downs, and the song captures that perfectly. The world-building on Name is particularly impressive, as you can feel the push and pull between the two lovers. The gulf between love and lust is continually growing as the track builds, and while they want each other’s body, they’re struggling to want to spend time outside of that together. Kymie and Kwame capture the sense of purgatory that is present in a dysfunctional relationship, and there’s a lot more to unpack on the track than there might be at first glance.

Check out Name below. The single sees Kymie flexing her skills as both a rapper and R&B singer, and it’s a precursor to her upcoming EP Indecision, out December 3rd. After hearing Name, I’m really interested in hearing the full EP - as I can’t wait to see the different sounds Kymie brings into her music. She’s got the voice to traverse a range of genres, and she’s going to be an artist you’ll want to watch.
