If you’re a fan of dreamy guitar-pop, then I’ve got a treat for you. Melbourne-based quartet The Bush are making music that invites you to float along on a cloud. Their latest single, Two Things, is all about the indecisiveness of love - something that hits home for many. The song might be about wanting two things at the same time, but all I wanted to do after hearing it was play it again (sorry).

The song follows their debut EP, Ricotta, and is a little bit slower than some of the band’s other tracks, which reflects the environment it was written in, at least in my opinion. Recorded between lockdowns in Melbourne, the discussion of love in 2020 is an interesting one. How do you meet someone in the current situation? How do you commit to them? Everyone’s gone a bit mad this year, and I think the lyrics reflect that. Hopefully normality isn’t too far away.

I love the guitar/bass sounds on Two Things. They meld together perfectly, and it really captures the laconic energy that guitar/slacker pop embodies. Chuck some headphones on, and take a long, relaxing walk while listening to the tunes from The Bush. You’ll feel much more at ease with yourself, and the world, after doing so.

Speaking about the track, songwriter/guitarist Averil says,“Two Things is about falling in and out of love with someone and the way these two feelings roll into each other from one minute to the next…or even at the same time. It’s about loving someone so much you want to squeeze them to death, but then flipping and hating their guts – usually when you’re PMSing hard. It’s about that indecisive feeling of wanting two (contrasting) things at the same time.”

Check out Two Things below. I love guitar pop music, and this song reminds me of bands like Dick Diver and the Ocean Party. I can’t wait to hear more music from The Bush, and I’d love to see them live when things start to return to normal. I can definitely see this track causing a huge boogie at a live gig - so let’s get through this.
