Suzi's ‘Figure It Out’ Is A Comforting Hug In Song Form
Melbourne artist Suzi has just released Figure It Out and it's a great reminder that you don't need to know it all. We’re constantly being told by everyone around us that it’s important to have your life planned out in fine detail, but that simply isn’t true. Sometimes you’ll be thrown a curveball, and that’s ok. We’re all just along for the ride.
Suzi’s vocals are calming and soothing, in the best way possible. They’re uniquely Australian, just like a mug of plant-based Milo (give it a try if you haven’t already), and you’ll feel at ease from the first seconds of Figure It Out. It’s our first introduction to her band, and they help to elevate her sound. Rather than drown her vocals out, Suzi sounds more at home than ever as a face of a rock group. I’d love to see this song live - I can definitely see it becoming a bit of a cult classic, and a staple of Suzi’s setlist.
Figure It Out is also nostalgic, in a way that’s hard to exactly pinpoint. However, when you listen to the track you'll get what I mean. The guitar tone is quite early 2000s, and you’ll feel like Suzi’s lyrics are being pulled straight from your innermost thoughts. While she’s singing about not being comfortable in her own skin, she sounds like the friend that’s there for you when you need her most. Figure It Out might just become your go-to song when you need someone to tell you that everything’s going to be ok.

Check out Figure It Out below. Suzi wrote it as “a love letter to the mentally sane,” which I think is a very common sentiment in 2020. We’re still mentally sane (for the most part), but we’ve been hanging on by a thread. If you need any more convincing to check this song out, then take my girlfriend’s approval as a sign to click play. When we agree on a song, you know you’re onto a winner.
