Sunday Sessions - 15th of November
I’m back with my weekly wrap-up after a few weeks off, and what a few weeks it’s been. Melbourne’s opening up more and more, and Joe Biden has won the US election, despite what some “media” outlets are currently bleating. It’s a start, but there' is a hell of a lot more work to be done globally. We’ve celebrated, but holding Biden to task is now the next goal of leftists everywhere. I’d love to see more progressive figures stand up in Australian politics - the recent Melbourne council elections were a good sign.
In personal news, my girlfriend and I took our puppy to see her family, who live in regional Victoria. Seeing our puppy (now an 8-month-old) more than holding her own with the other 2 dogs was a beautiful sight, if not a bit confronting. She’s growing up so fast, and before too long, she’ll be a full-sized dog! Not so sure we’ll ever stop referring to her as a puppy, though. Some habits will never change.
Without further ado, here are the articles that I wrote this week. I’ve been lacking on writing this summary up for a couple of weeks, mainly because I’ve been embracing Melbourne’s newfound freedom. After cracking a views milestone last month , I was taking a bit of a rest from the blog, but I’m feeling more motivated than ever. Listening to the new OneFour tape has got me feeling good about the state of hip-hop in Australia, and its potential (and ability) to make an impact on a global scale. If you haven’t heard the tape, go check it out.
This week, I interviewed Jordie Race-Coldrey about his new single Strawberry Gum, and wrote about new music from Lola Scott, Suzi, Lack The Low, Tamara And The Dreams and Ethan French. Support your local music scene, and support your local music journalists - everyone has to get their start somewhere.
Lola Scott's ‘The Eviction Song’ Is A Cautionary Renting Tale
INTERVIEW: Jordie Race-Coldrey Wants Australians To Embrace Aussie Pop
Suzi's ‘Figure It Out’ Is A Comforting Hug In Song Form
Lack The Low's ‘Know What It’s Like’ Is A Portrait Of Modern Times
Tamara And The Dreams' ‘Internet Song’ Is An Ode To The Online Generation
Ethan French's ‘You're My Home’ Is A Love Song Brimming With Harmonies
I’m also going to start embedding a Spotify playlist where each week, I add the songs I’ve written about that week. The aim is to eventually create a wealth of good Aussie music you can chuck on, even if you haven’t been reading the blogs!
