Sydney neo-soul artist RISSA has teamed up with Zyad for her new track, Hold Up, and it’ll make you horn-y. The track combines the best of the sounds of soul, R&B and jazz, and you’ll fall in love with RISSA’s voice. Horns have never sounded cooler than they do on Hold Up. I’m happy for you to hold me to that one.

Hold Up tells the story of a love-hate relationship. The energy of the track really captures that tension between the two voices (in this case RISSA and Zyad), with both showcasing their strengths. RISSA’s voice is one of the strongest in Australia, while Zyad adds some serious swagger with his verse. It all makes for a track that oozes cool from every note.

Speaking about the track, RISSA says, “Hold Up is a modern-day love story of two people in a relationship speaking on the 'loveyoubuthateyou' situation they find themselves in.” I’m always impressed when the energy of a song replicates the mood that the artists are talking about.

There’s a serious tension and chemistry going on with Hold Up, and clearly RISSA and Zyad know how to work together. The track came together in just two days, and that helps contribute to the organic feel. You’ll find yourself nodding along to the lyrics, but also getting caught in its groove.

Check out Hold Up below. I’m finding myself more and more drawn towards neo-soul artists, and RISSA might just have the best voice I’ve heard yet. Australian neo-soul is, in my mind at least, leading the charge in the global neo-soul revolution. You’ll want to give this a listen - it’ll make you feel like you’re out at a jazz bar, sipping on a cocktail. That’s the power of a song like this.
