SA rockers Oscar The Wild have just released their latest single, My Daisy, and it sees them finding happiness in what is a traditionally sad time. The song is about the downfall of a relationship due to time and distance, and the hindsight that accompanies such a decision and situation. It’s a hard situation because neither party is at fault - they’re just victims of circumstance.

Instead of laying blame, the song attempts to play with the concept of a break-up song, offering audio comfort in the form of rocking riffs and killer vocals, rather than wallowing in saccharine sadness. The band has become a fan favourite for their varied influences, and this track sees them embracing the indie rock genre, taking a strong influence from The Beths. However, they’ve been known to incorporate jazz and punk elements elsewhere in their discography.

Speaking about the song, the band says it sees them trying to make the best of a messy situation. “We wanted to make the song as fun as possible to try and make light out of what is such a crappy situation for anyone, and we hope that comes through in the sound of the guitars and the upbeat, but playful rhythm throughout the chorus specifically.” They’ve absolutely nailed that, because the song will make you smile - there are no two ways about it. Its energy is infectious, and each riff will get stuck in your head and won’t let go. Try not to get a sore neck from nodding along - make sure you stretch before listening.

Check out My Daisy below. I really like the energy that Oscar The Wild bring to this track, and it’s no wonder that they’re gaining a reputation for their live show throughout Adelaide circles. This track should serve as serious comfort to anyone that’s experienced heartbreak in a relationship, but equally, it is a song that you can jump around your lounge room to. Rather than embrace the melancholy of so many break-up songs, My Daisy is a fun, energetic track that sees each band member taking the limelight at different points in the song. It’s the equivalent of every Harlem Globetrotter getting their time to shine on the court, and I can’t wait to see what OTW have in store for 2021.
