Sydney-based artist Mulholland Blond isn’t afraid to pour his heart out, and his new single Stay sees him reflecting on nearly losing a loved one. It’s a dreamy, synth-soaked track that sees Mulholland marrying his silky smooth vocals with guitar licks that’ll work their way into your brain and dig their hooks in. He’s perfect for that sultry playlist you’re putting together - and he’s best listened to with the lights off.

There’s an earnestness to Mulholland’s music that isn’t always present in Australian pop, and it’s really refreshing. You’ll be transported back to the 80s thanks to the track’s lush synths and his syrupy vocals. If there’s someone in your life that you want to Stay, now’s the time to tell them. After all, you’ve got the perfect song for the occasion.

Speaking about the track, Mulholland says, '“Stay was written after I almost lost someone very close to me. It was a tough time & writing about the experience proved cathartic. Although the song has its own connotations in line with my experience, I wanted it to be universally relatable. By keeping it lyrically indirect, I hope the listener can find their own meaning & pair it with resonating themes within their life.”

Mulholland is able to make the intimate feel relatable, and you can easily place yourself within the world he’s built with his lyrics. All you need to do to make yourself feel like you’re in a coming-of-age film is to put on this track, hop in the car and stare out the window (preferably while it’s raining). This song is meant to soundtrack the pivotal scene in a cult classic film. Filmmakers, you know what to do.

Mulholland Blond clearly has a pop sensibility that will hold him in good stead going forward, and I can’t wait to hear what he’s working on next.
