Lottie Liams' 'Uncomfortable' Is Perfect To Text To Your Toxic Ex
There’s something cathartic about finally being rid of your toxic ex. Melbourne musician Lottie Liams knows that feeling all too well, and she captures that in her new single Uncomfortable. It expands on the soundscapes of her last single Blame It All On Me. and is the fuck you to your manipulative ex that you’re too afraid to send.
Uncomfortable is the second taste of Lottie’s upcoming three-track release Guide To Growing Thorns,. She’s spent the time in lockdown writing new music and preparing her new live show. She’ll be playing with a live band for the first time when things open back up, and that’ll add a whole new layer to her already-impressive sound.
The groovy bassline sits in direct contrast to Lottie’s falsetto vocals. The production feels particularly well-suited to the mood of the track. Rather than get bogged down in gloom and doom, Uncomfortable is triumphant. Her lyrics highlight the behaviour of a toxic ex, yet the song doesn’t feel defeated. Instead, it’s a victory song. Lottie’s been through the wringer, and she’s come out the other side better than ever.
It’s hard to write music about relationships ending and make it sound natural. A lot of pop musicians have a crack at writing about a relationship’s breakdown. Often they make it seem like a moment, rather than a pattern of behaviour. That’s not the case with Uncomfortable. This single feels more representative of the end of an unhealthy relationship. Toxic exes are a lingering scent you spend quite a bit of time trying to scrub off.
