Albert Salt’s New Single ‘25’ Will Get You Thinking About Your 20s
Whether you’re in your 20s, or those days are behind you/yet to come, Melbourne’s Albert Salt will have you thinking about those days with his new single 25. It’s full of slightly unsettling synths that replicate the uneasy nature of the third decade of your life, while also being utterly charming. It’s a duality that shouldn’t exist on paper but does in practice.
A lot of what makes this song so enjoyable is Albert’s staccato vocals. His vocals feel like they could be from some of the biggest “indie” crossover hits of the past decade. At the same time, he’s got his own unique style and flair. After listening to the song, I feel like I’ve just run a race. However, unlike when I run, I’m ready to do it all over again straight away.
I’m always impressed when an artist can make their own personal story feel relatable. It’s easy to insert yourself into 25 thanks to Albert’s lyrics, and to me, that’s one of the signs of a good song. On the surface it’s a catchy pop song, but there are layers to peel back with every listen. Your replay button is going to get a workout.
Speaking about the track, Albert says, “25 touches on themes of addiction to technology and the anxiety that it brings, substance abuse, ending of a longterm relationship and really is about that period of time in your 20s where you're unsure where you're heading and questioning where your life is at.”
His sentiment is eminently relatable. Your 20s aren’t exactly the most stable period of your life, and for Albert (much like many people) there have been a lot of changes going on during his 20s to talk about. He’s found catharsis through music, and we can live vicariously through his song. 25 is the new anthem for a decade of uncertainty - and it’s also a source of inspiration to get your life back on track if it’s gone off the rails a little bit.

Check out 25 below. It comes off his upcoming EP, which will be his first major body of work since his 2015 record Wilson Street. He’s taken the time to write music he’s happy with, and the results are there for your ears. Be comforted in the knowledge that there are lots of other people out there as unsure about their 20s as you are. Is that comforting? I think it is.
