Hackney-born, Melbourne-based rapper Z.Lewis has returned for his first track of 2021, and he’s brought Byron Bay rapper L33ze along for the ride. Daylight sees the pair trying to one-up each other, and they both bring their A-game on the mic. Rapping over a glitchy, J-Dilla inspired beat produced by UK native OST, Z.Lewis and L33ze get it done. It’s as simple as that.

Rappers in Australia are always egging each other on, and I feel like if you’re an MC in Australia, you’ll be using Z.Lewis as a benchmark to measure yourself against. He’s packing haymaker bars into his verses, and his flow gets stuck in your head. He’s really the whole package, and I think it’s only a matter of time before wider rap-loving audiences clock onto what he’s putting out. Hopefully, that becomes the case when he drops his debut project.

Speaking about the track, Z.Lewis says that the track is a marker for personal change, but it wasn’t intended to be that way. He says, “Daylight is a record that I didn’t realise was a marker for a huge transitional point in my life. It’s funny how the universe will do that. I had to bring L33ze in on it because he is incredible at what he does. And OST has been rocking with me a long time, he’s one of the best producers I’ve ever worked with...”
