Sydney artist Mel Bailey has just released her new single Wait, Stop., and the song’s bone-chilling fierceness will resonate with you long after you’re done listening. Mel’s vocals are backed by her 6 piece band, as well as production from Kwame and Xiro. It’s a well-crafted response to Tyler, The Creator’s new magic wand, and the distorted production gives the song a jagged edge that only serves to highlight the song’s beauty.

The song follows a period of exploration from Mel, including travelling overseas to South America. Speaking about the track, Mel says that Tyler, The Creator was a big influence on the track’s sound.  “I wanted to create something where I could channel my strength in a man’s world. I wanted to remind women that we need to rely on our own voice & power for self assurance. Tyler, the Creator’s song new magic wand and his distorted production, along with using chopped screams was something I wanted to draw inspiration from.

“His line “sometimes you need to close a door to open a window” made me think about the situation I had been facing and I wanted to do exactly that with my power. The track was created as a response to new magic wand.” Speaking about the track, Tyler says, “this is my favorite song ive made. its so, tyler: everything ive attempted in one, executed perfectly”, so it’s a great place to draw inspiration from.
