Just Shy’s New Song ‘Consumed By A Beat’ Is A Reminder Of A Sticky Nightclub Floor

While the thrill of a nightclub might be further away than ever (at least here in Victoria), for a brief moment Melbourne producer Just Shy manages to capture what’s so alluring about the sticky dancefloor of a club on his new track Consumed By A Beat.

Using I’m A Slave 4 U-era Britney Spears, and current Tame Impala as his reference points, Consumed By A Beat speaks to the euphoria of letting go on a night out - without the hangover or comedown of the next day.

Speaking about the track, Just Shy isn’t ashamed to admit it's meant to reflect the ecstacy (literally) of a night out, saying, “There’s certainly a hedonistic element to the track. I wanted to make Consumed By A Beat feel as all-consuming and captivating as a euphoric nightclub moment, and I hope I pulled it off.”

The track shimmers and shines, with its use of vocal harmonies making the track sound just as shiny as the sweaty, cracked disco ball you’re likely to find in exactly the sort of nightclub Just Shy is talking about.

Much like you’d lose a friend at the club, it’s easy to lose yourself within the layered vocals on this track. They’re heaped on, but each layer sounds tightly constructed. There’s a lot going on on Consumed By A Beat, so you’ll want to give it some repeat listens.

Check out Consumed By A Beat below, and for just a moment, capture the feeling of letting it all go on the dancefloor. We all need an escape from reality every now and then, and Just Shy is doing his best to provide it on his latest track.
