INTERVIEW: Let FancyNormal Plan The Menu For Your Next Dinner Party

FancyNormal. Photo supplied.

Melbourne pop duo FancyNormal have just dropped their debut EP, Starters & Appetizers. I thought it’d be a great opportunity to chat to the band and get their thoughts on planning a menu for a dinner party.

I asked the band to put together a menu to go with each of the tracks off the EP, and why. Sit back, put on the EP and get some snacks. You deserve it.

Butterflies & SSRIs - Packet of chips / whatever you ate at recess time.

Tasting notes: Whatever memories of recess time you have, whether bitter or sweet, or you just bombed out at four-square/handball, that crinkle cut and juice box combo just makes it all ok.

Ultra Passion - A birthday cake

Tasting Notes: You get invited to THAT party. Omg. He’s there, you look good, he’s talking to you the whole night and everything is spinning. You’re now both sitting on the front yard eating the birthday cake together and it’s magic.

Much like a birthday cake, though, first loves can be amazing or highly disappointing.

Sober Spaceman - Savoury bagel, cream cheese.

Tasting Notes: When you’re unsure about a whole bunch of shit in life, I recommend eating one of these. There’s magic in carbs that allow all logic and calm to flood the loud questions during an existential crisis.

Sad Champagne - Ice cream, with sprinkles.

Tasting notes: Breakups = ICE CREAM. And even better with those coloured sprinkles from the baking aisle, bby.

Private Wine - Pancakes & bacon

Tasting notes: Coming to terms with who you are is a journey. It takes time and is something you grow into. Kind of like the first time you try pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. It’s overwhelming but as time goes on, you own it, and best of all, LOVE IT.
