2020, hey?

I’m not going to bore you with recounting what’s currently going on in the world - we’ve all had more than enough coronavirus talk for a lifetime.

However, it is important to keep in mind what’s currently happening when listening to Sydney artist Huck Hastings’ new track Anthem For The End Of The World, because he captures the sense of despair that a lot of people are experiencing, and pairs it with a sense of optimism that far too many people are lacking.

You’ll immediately notice the guitar line, which for my money is the most arresting thing about the track. It’s his third release, and his most interesting - yes, things are quite shit right now, but at least we have art to make things better. Speaking of which - let’s keep the arts sector alive.

The song touches on the recent bushfire crisis, which feels like a lifetime ago, but lyrics like “Sydney’s on fire” gets straight to the point. We’ve all got the images of a red sky imprinted on our collective consciousness, and Anthem For The End Of The World brings back these visceral images.

Talking about the track, Huck says he looks at it like “apocalype prom music.” It’s hard to disagree with his description - it really does feel like a song for the end times, even if we’re not quite there yet.
