Burundi-born, Perth-based rapper Francis Fuji has linked up with Auefill for the auto-tuned Where, and it’s hypnotising. You’ll be able to feel the emotion through both of their vocals - they’re calling out for someone that’s abandoned them. If you’re a fan of artists like Juice WRLD, Kanye West or The Kid Laroi, then this song’ll hit home. Australia’s seeing quite a few artists pop up that are trying their hand at emo-rap, and I’m really digging Francis’ vibe.

On top of singing on the track, Francis produced the beat, proving he’s got a lot of talent in different areas. I’m really interested to see how his sound evolves, because I’m really enjoying the use of guitar in the beat. It links the song back to its roots in emo/pop-punk, in a way that a lot of songs in the genre struggle to do. Where appears to wear its main influences on its sleeve, but I don’t see that as a bad thing - quite the opposite. Francis is inspired equally by punk and country music, and that gives his music an edge, because he draws inspiration from unexpected places.

Francis himself has always put production first, emulating Kanye’s style of producing using samples. However, as he got older, he realised the power of putting pen to paper. He uses music to tell a story. As he told me, “I use my music as journal entries. Every song represents a chapter in my life and a lesson I have learned.” Each song contains Francis’ essence, and every decision he makes in his music comes from within, rather than what’s the flavour of the month.

Speaking about the song, Francis says it’s a song about not getting support when you need it most. “Where is about being in a dark place in life in a rut while someone special not being there for you when needed and just vanished and leaving you alone for their selfish reasons. The song is relatable to many people that have been through a similar situation.”

Be warned though, if you’ve recently experienced heartbreak, then I think this track will hit just a little bit TOO close to home. Make sure you’ve got the tissues nearby - you might just need them. The song’s closing refrain “where did you go” is haunting, and it’s almost like Francis is calling out to the listener. The void hears everyone’s calls, but it’s never able to answer. Such is the struggle of purgatory. Maybe one day, it’ll answer? Then we’re really in trouble.
