Fbqb Have Teamed Up With Abraham Tilbury For The Chilled-Out ‘Waste Ur Time’

Brisbane/NSW producer duo fbqb (aka James Battams and Ryan Bullivant) have teamed up with Abraham Tilbury for the lush Waste Ur Time. The song calls to mind the likes of Clams Casino and Shlohmo, with the intricate soundscapes used throughout the track serving to highlight the woozy, manipulated vocals.

Waste Ur Time highlights Abraham’s vocals, which pairs perfectly with the myriad of disparate sounds that have been brought together to form the production for the track. It’s a track about the feelings of self-doubt and uncertainty within a relationship, and much like the self-doubt that can eat you up, Waste Ur Time will have you feeling slightly on edge the whole time. It’s a pop track with a serious kick - you’ll be sweating after you’re done listening.

Speaking about working with Abraham, fbqb says, “Working with Abraham was great. We’ve been friends with him for a long time and have worked on a bunch of smaller things together before so the creative dynamic was already there, but we had never collaborated on a full song from start to finish. It was really cool to how his song writing and our production styles mixed and developed over time!”

I’m always interested when I hear production that isn’t afraid to break the norms of song structure and conventional wisdom. There are samples used in Waste Ur Time that have been expertly positioned and manipulated to flow as part of the layering of the track, rather than work against it. It’s a dense listen but you won’t feel overwhelmed. Instead, you’ll find yourself drawn to a different part of the production with every listen.

Check out Waste Ur Time below. Abraham and fbqb are a great pairing, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Their particular style of production hits all the right notes for me, and the news that they’ve got more collaborations and releases in the chamber is very welcome indeed. Keep an eye on fbqb - you’ll be hearing their name more and more very soon.
