Bailey Judd's ‘Can’t Quite’ Is A Strong Reminder To Let Go Of The Past

Melbourne-based rocker Bailey Judd has just released his new single Can’t Quite, and it’s a great reminder that life is about moving forward. Combining elements of jazz, rock and pop, Bailey’s vocals carry the weight of a relationship that’s run its course, but he doesn’t want to let go. You’ll feel yourself falling into the comforting folds of the track, before the chorus shakes you out of the groove. Bailey’s calling to listeners to make sure they’re always evolving, and pushing forward, rather than retreating into their past ways. Backed by a chorus of soothing vocals, each section of the track builds on the last, and it turns into a soaring ballad that you’ll take to heart.

I particularly enjoyed the guitars on Can’t Quite, and they pair nicely with Bailey’s vocals. The guitars are slightly fuzzed out, and remind me of the riffs you’d hear from more psych-influenced/jam bands. There’s a real sense of freedom on this track, and you can’t help but feel a weight lifting off your chest as it plays. If you’re looking for something therapeutic to listen to, this might just be it. Be warned, though, it’ll get stuck in your head - and neither I nor Bailey have any way to deal with that.

Speaking about the track Bailey says it was written when he first came to Melbourne, and was holding onto the past. “Can’t Quite was written when I first moved to Melbourne and I was struggling with a long distance relationship - holding on to the nostalgia and comfort of it but in desperate need to let go and evolve. It’s been with me through those four years, recorded in early 2020 and received many mix revisions and rearrangements. I’m so glad to finally share it with the world.” You can tell the love and care that’s been put into this track, with every note carefully crafted. This track is set to get you through some tough decisions.

Check out Can’t Quite below. If you’re looking for that final push to take the plunge and move on from your past, or chase your dreams, then let this song be your sign. It’s a hard-hitting, energetic track about nostalgia, and it captures the human spirit in a way that most artists spend their career chasing. I’m excited to hear what comes next from Bailey, and how his sound continues to evolve. Based on Can’t Quite, moving forward will prove to be an exciting journey for both him, and those around him.
